Welcome to Wellington Choral Society. We’re a friendly choir with about 80 members, and in 2015 we celebrated our 75th anniversary. We perform two concerts every year with professional soloists and orchestra, in late November and late March, usually in St John’s Church, Wellington. New members, with an enthusiasm for choral music and who love singing, are warmly welcomed for all sections. There are no auditions, but some sight reading ability is helpful.
Somerset singers set sail, bound for Exeter Cathedral!
Wellington Choral Society is undertaking an epic voyage, culminating in a large-scale performance in Exeter Cathedral later this year. Members of the choir, who will be joined on stage by Exmouth Choral Society, Exeter Choral Society and the Exeter Symphony Orchestra, are underway with rehearsals for a performance of Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Sea Symphony" that will take place on 25th November 2017 and include a fundraising collection in support of the RNLI.
Our Musical Director, Laurence Blyth, tasked with bringing the 200 singers together, is looking forward to the challenge.
"I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to conduct such a large-scale performance of this amazing symphony in such stunning surroundings. Many of the singers won't have sung in the Cathedral before, and I know that they're looking forward to it."
The concert is sponsored by The Vaughan Williams Charitable Trust.
Tickets are on sale at £15, £12 & £10 with accompanied under-16s free, from Exeter Visitor Information (tel. 01392-665700), online or on the door.
More information about the concert, including a biography of Ralph Vaughan Williams and notes about the Sea Symphony, can be found on a separate dedicated website, using the button below. Tickets can also be bought online via the Sea Symphony website.
